Celebrate Midsommar in Bishop Hill June 20th

Join us in Bishop Hill at our
Midsommar Music Fest
Saturday, June 20th

Since agrarian times, Midsommar celebrations in Sweden have been held to welcome summertime and the season of fertility. This has become the most recognized of all Swedish traditional festivals and one that the residents and descendants of Bishop Hill’s settlers continue to celebrate annually on or around the summer solstice each June.

Following a day of music in the village park, a maypole is decorated and is carried in a procession to the Colony School. Once there, traditional Swedish ring dances are taught to all attending and dancing around the maypole begins.

This year's lineup for the Main Stage Concert in the village park will begin at 11am and will feature these performers:

Black Hawk Pipes & Drums
Wendy Anderson
The Mountain Men
Turas
Jazz On The Side
Dressing the Maypole will begin following the concert at 4 pm. Visitors will be invited to join a procession led by accordionist, Ernie Sandquist, to deliver the dressed Maypole to the Colony School. Here the festivities will continue with dancing. At 7pm, refreshments will be served and a traditional barn dance will start. The dance will be called by Gail Hintze with music provided by the Rusty Pickup String Band. Admission to the dance is $5.00.

Honor Flight Benefit on June 14

The Honor Flight of the Quad Cities has made possible 32 round trip tours of the war monuments in Washington, D.C.  for war veterans and their guardians.
Bishop Hill is once again hosting this annual fundraiser to be held rain or shine from 3-7pm on June 14 in the village's park. In the past five years, participants of the event have raised a total of more than $60,000 in support of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Organizer Linda Spring, the owner of the Filling Station Restaurant in Bishop Hill, launched the event five years ago. "That first year, we got it together in three weeks and pulled it off. Now it just falls into place so nicely each year."

  Please join us!
